HappyPantry Baldivis Community Support Inc. was founded In March 2022, after 3.5 years collecting from the local supermarkets food surplus that was going to landfill, to feed their animals on the farm. The food was acceptable also for human consumption and they shared the food with close family and friends.
Knowing that many people in their community are struggling to feed their families throughout the Coronavirus, many people has lost their jobs for various reasons, elderly people who’s living on little pension, homeless people, young families, people with disabilities, young women with children under the age of 5, they decided to open their doors on their property to help people of all backgrounds who were having difficulties to reach the most basic thing in life, food.
They established the HappyPantry Baldivis community support inc.
Within a year, together with local generous volunteers they are feeding approximately 3000 people every month.
The number of people who’s in need is growing each week, as the economy is getting worse in Australia, at the moment statistics shows that one out of every five children are living in poverty, and more people are struggling with the high rising living costs more than ever.
The aim is to keep sustainability by partnering with generous corporations that are willing to help them with their mission, reducing food from landfill and reducing hunger for many people.
HappyPantry, has been in the last 13 months, not only giving free food to needy people, but also, a community hub building social cohesion in the community, they are welcoming families from diverse backgrounds, particularly mothers with pre-school children, come to connect, share, learn and take free groceries that helps them to meet the end each week.
They’re also proud HappyPantry now as they’re helping the community by giving work experience for young people, and support those on rehab programs to get them back to workforce.
HappyPantry is now recognised by the local Council as emergency help centre in the Rockingham shire.
HappyPantry is open every Wednesday from 10:00am – 12:30 pm, and Thursday from 10:00am – 12:30pm to give the public more opportunity to reach out and get all their needs, as at the moment we were only opening one and half hours twice a week. Follow us on Facebook for recent updates.
